Suivie depuis les années 80 par un atelier réputé en matière d’italiennes, cette Moto Guzzi Le Mans I de 1976 (matching numbers) affiche aujourd’hui 21 000 km ; très peu donc, pour une bécane charpentée pour avaler les bornes sans broncher. Son historique en exprime clairement la raison.
Sans conteste l’une des superbikes emblématiques des années 70 ; et revenons un peu à cette période… Jusqu’alors réservé à une minorité avertie, l’aigle de Mandello a soudainement conquis l’imagination d’un public plus large, avec l’arrivée justement de cette 850 Le Mans. Décrite à l’époque comme “la machine la plus élégante et la plus excitante”, elle semblait filer à 180 km/h sur le papier. La réalité, c’est qu’elle délivrait des performances supérieures à 200 km/h ! D’où le succès qu’on lui connaît aujourd’hui.
Piloter une Moto Guzzi Le Mans I de nos jours, dans le contexte que nous connaissons, est particulièrement jouissif pour certains, méditatif pour d’autres. C’est en tout cas un véritable retour aux sources et aux sentiments qui nous animaient, il n’y a pas si longtemps…
Followed since the 80’s by a workshop renowned for its expertise with Italian bikes, this 1976 Moto Guzzi Le Mans I (matching numbers) now shows just 21,000 km ; very little, considering it’s a machine built to devour long distances without flinching. Its history clearly explains why.
Undoubtedly one of the iconic superbikes of the 70’s ; let’s go back to that era for a moment… Until then, the eagle from Mandello was the preserve of a select few enthusiasts. But that changed with the arrival of the 850 Le Mans, which suddenly captured the imagination of a much wider audience. Described at the time as “the most elegant and most exciting machine”, it was said to hit 180 km/h on paper. In reality, it delivered performance well above 200 km/h ! Hence the success it still meets today.
Riding a Moto Guzzi Le Mans I today, in the world we live in now, is an exhilarating experience for some, meditative for others. Either way, it’s a genuine return to the roots and to the feelings that once drove us, not so long ago…
